Kernewek Lowender

Second day or the Second month - wow!

Came up the East Coast of the Yorke Peninsula a couple of days ago. Found some nice little villages - Jim had a bit of a tummy ache so we visited the Hospital at Minalton fabulous service.

Then onto the Kadina - staying at the showgrounds it is very peaceful here. We stayed here for the weekend as there is a Cornish Festival on hence the Kernewek Lowender which means something which I can't remember at the moment I will find out tomorrow and let you know. Anyway we have had a fabulous time - I am not hooked on pasties I have to say bit bland but I suppose it is what they had to put in them in when things were bad. Music is great and the kids Maypoles where beautiful to watch. Then today Jim was just in heaven with the Copper Coast Cavalcade of Classic Cars - try and say that with a Cornish accent.

Heading down the Yorke Peninsula

We had one last thing to do in Gladstone before we left - forget wine tasting you can taste the cordials yum real sarsaparilla! Then headed off down the Yorke Peninsula different to the Eyre Peninsula but still very beautiful as you will see from the photos. The wind and rain came in from the south this afternoon - little chilli!

Clare Valley

Had a fun weekend in Adelaide with my friend Joy - thanks for the bed and the company Joy! And thanks to the great folks at the Gladstone Community Caravan Park for minding midi-bus for us for just $5 a night. Gladstone and the surrounding towns all have fabulous history and some great homes and buildings. Most of the original buildings are made from local stone very different to Queensland. I decided not to start photographing them because I would never stop. You will just have to come see for yourselves.

We left Adelaide a little unsure which way we were going to head back north to Gladstone (South Aust) but ended up on a beautiful little back road that took us up through the Clare Valley. A little wine tasting but not to much we
were enjoying the drive way to much. There was one winery that I had heard of that I did want to visit. Seven Hills it is owned and run by the Jesuits they have had a community making wine here since the mid 1800's.

Forgot the Kimba photo

A day on a salt lake

Went through a town called Kimba -they claim somehow to be the halfway point of Australia, neither of us could work it out.

Then onto Lake Gillies and I mean literally onto the lake - as you will see from the photos, just magic. Jim will have to add a grease and oil of the push bikes to his daily chores so the salt doesn't get in.

Gawler Ranges and Minnipa

We headed east a couple of days ago back along the inland Eyre Highway. Had a great day hoofing it around the Gawler Ranges and then a night in a small town called Minnipa sadly it looks like the town is dying the post ofice has closed - the petrol station has closed. But we found a good crowd at the pub for dinner and had a great meal.

Next day off to see some more rock formations around the area, one of them is said to be the second biggest rock in Australia after Uluru. It rained while we were there and you can see why the early farmers followed what the locals had been doing for eons in capturing the water as it runs off the rocks and directing to dams.
